Canadian Olympian Offers Leadership Advice in Association Magazine's March Edition

A Lesson in Persistence, Overcoming Obstacles, and Achieving Goals from a Canadian Olympian

Larisa Yurkiw is a former Olympian and World Cup medalist turned writer, mentor, and motivational speaker. Her experience with physical and political adversity throughout a 10-year international sporting career is the platform for a bold story of both grit and the grand return of taking a chance on oneself.

Everyone in a leadership role in a not-for-profit has hit the proverbial “brick wall”. Frustration, and even resignation, are commonplace. I’ve been there. On occasion, we need to be reminded that each of us will be thrown the occasional curve ball -- sometimes a number of them in a row! They are tests -- of our resilience, and our grit. If we pass those tests, we end up stronger, and better for the experience.

The lessons Larisa learned during her journey are many, and are valuable for each of us. I hope you’ll read her full story in the spring issue of Association™. Watch for it in March!
